Staff Sergeant Ryan Hushaw joined the West Point Band in 2026. Originally from Henderson, Nevada, he earned a Bachelor of Music in instrumental music education from the University of Utah. While attending the University of Utah, he performed with the Wind Ensemble, Philharmonic, Percussion Ensemble, Drumline, and the newly-created Utah Percussion Quartet. During his time as a student, Staff Sgt. Hushaw worked with local percussion programs in the Salt Lake valley. As a rudimental percussionist, Staff Sgt. Hushaw performed with the Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps in 2021 and 2022, as well as the Boston Crusaders Drum and Bugle Corps in 2024. He has competed numerous times as a soloist at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention, earning second and third place awards in the “Collegiate Rudimental Snare Drum” category in 2022 and 2023. Staff Sgt. Hushaw’s teachers include Dr. Michael Sammons, Keith Carrick, Danny Soulier, Kelly Wallis, and Adam Steff.
